Guangzhou (CNS)--A new ancient Eastern Han burial ground was found in Guangzhou in southern China's Guangdong Province in June. It contained a large number of funeral objects, including copper coins, agates, and a rare terracotta figurine-shaped floor lamp, China News Service reported Wednesday.

The well preserved tomb is about 8.20 meters long and 5.02 meters wide. Most funeral objects were saved. The 100 funeral objects dug out by the archeologists this time included pottery, copper wares, jade wares, and some accessories made of agate and colored glaze.

The archeologists also found a large number of copper coins, which may have been used during the Wang Mang period of the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD25-220), said Ma Jianguo, head of the city's Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. Ma also said they have seldom seen so much copper coinage in their excavations before.

Meanwhile, a rare terracotta figurine-shaped floor lamp was also brought to light again. This is just the third piece of such a lamp found in the last five years, according to Ma.

The report also said the archeologists have already discovered over 180 ancient tombs in the same site.
