Beijing(CNS)--With the Libyan crisis now in its fourth month, China has called on the international community to find a political solution to the chaos, said Hong Lei, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman during a regular news briefing on June 21.
Mahmoud Jibril, chairman of the executive board of the Libyan rebel National Transitional Council will meet with Yang Jiechi, the Chinese Foreign Minister, to exchange views on the situation in Libya during his visit to China on June 21 and 22, according to Hong.
On whether China will play a role in the mediation of the Libyan crisis, Hong said, as a permanent member of UN Security Council, China has always been devoted to maintaining world peace and stability.
"The Libyan crisis has lasted four months, and Libyan civilians have been suffering from the chaos of war. Furthermore, infrastructure has been destroyed. China expresses its deep concern about this. China thinks this kind of situation cannot continue and a political solution is needed as soon as possible," he added.
In the end, Hong reiterated China's call for an immediate cease-fire as well as a negotiated end to the war.
