Haikou (CNS)--A tax-rebate shop in Hainan's Haikou Shengsheng Department Store was robbed at gunpoint around 9 on the morning of July 5.
The suspect named Wang injured a female clerk and made off with jewelry worth over a million yuan ($154,700), but was later apprehended. All of the stolen property was recovered. During a police interrogation Wang confessed to owing a large amount of money.
At the beginning of the year Hainan Province launched a tax-rebate program for non-Hainan residents to attract foreign tourists. The Haikou Shengsheng Department Store is among three shopping malls on the tax-rebate merchandiser list, and mainly carries international brand clothing, watches, cosmetics, and gold and silver accessories.
