Shanghai (CNS) -- Rivaling "Eastern Manhattan," the Lujiazui financial zone has been working on improving the happiness index of the over 100,000 white-collared workers in this area, by providing more convenient and economical accesses to meals and transportation.

Twelve breakfast carts were the first gift on the morning of August 3. Various breakfast choices at affordable prices from 1.5 yuan to 10 yuan were offered from Monday to Friday.

Lujiazui is one of the biggest achievements of the some 20-year development of Shanghai's Pudong New Area, and has become a landmark. Dozens of international financial talents and several hundred domestic and foreign organizations are based in the skyscrapers of this prosperous area.

Targeted at the huge financial resources, mid- and high-grade restaurants dominate the area, such as Hong Kong style tea restaurants, Japanese flavored restaurants, and any other kind you can think of.

Nevertheless, for most employees, the consumption levels have somewhat gone over their affordability. The regional administration is instituting a "fair price white-collared restaurants" program to supply them with relatively cheap and convenient alternatives.

Apart from the breakfast carts, eleven "diet zones" will open to serve 700 people at the same time, affordably priced from 15 to 20 yuan.

The third part of the plan is a white-collared cafeteria under construction in the 632-meter-high Shanghai Tower.

More than just diet options, diversified improvements to transportation and cultural facilities will be made to increase the happiness index of the majority of employees.

For instance, a financial city bus plan is being carried out, connecting 30 office buildings in a line. Another goal is set to facilitate wireless network services all over the financial zone within two years, which will be the first of its kind on the Chinese mainland.
