Maoming (CNS) -- As the annual Mid-Autumn Festival mooncake craze kicks in, newly emerged group-buying websites have proven to be an invaluable source for the seasonal treat.
"The group-buying sites save me money on mooncakes," said Wenwen, who is a big fan of group buying. "26% off! I only have to spend 75 yuan for a 102-yuan mooncake package."
Business owners are also cutting budgets thanks to group-buying sites. A Taiwanese businessman surnamed Chen, who usually plans a big mooncake budget for nearly 100 employees, said he saved a bundle by using a group buying service. He even bought extra cakes for his overseas relatives and friends.
Compared to previous years, the production cost of mooncakes has increased by about 20% due to more expensive raw materials, packaging, labor and transportation, according to Yu Jian, manager of a local mooncake brand.
But group-buying sites have helped ease the burden to consumers by integrating resources from various mooncake brands, keeping prices even lower than before.
Brands all across the country are taking part in the group-buying campaign, as it not only increases the number of distribution channels but is also a good means for promotion.
