Tianjin (CNS) -- Dawning Information Industry announced Monday that it will transform from a traditional hardware producer to a cloud computing service provider. The company has remained at the top of Chinese high-performance computers for 15 years in a row.
Its CEO Li Jun said at the "Launching Cloud Drive" strategic press conference that the cloud computing method will begin the fourth informational technology revolution after the advent of mainframes, personal computers, and the Internet. It will change the way humans gain and preserve information and data, and further the global computer industry.
Li said that in the coming three years, Dawning will build over ten city cloud computing centers.
A city cloud facility will gather all computing, storage, network, security, and application IT resources and provide universal cloud computing services to users.
This intensive mode of resource management can both save a lot of money for the first-phase of government informationalization and lower the maintenance costs on equipment, staff, and the system itself.
On the same day as the press conference, Dawning signed the cooperation construction agreement with Chongqing and Harbin, extended the original agreements with Chengdu and Wuxi, signed a strategic cloud computing cooperation agreement with the National Development Bank, and released its new cloud computing products, including the C9000 container database and Longteng server.
Dawning is a state hi-tech corporation founded on the significant achievements of the national "863 plan," supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Initiated in Tianjin in July of 2006, it developed the advanced computer Dawning 5000A in September of 2008. In June of 2010, the Dawning Nebulae came in second place among the TOP500 global supercomputers, with a theoretical peak performance of 2.9843 petaflops.
