Shenzhen (CNS) -- A labor inspection team was sent to investigate the Gucci scandal of abusing workers, according to a press conference held Thursday by the Shenzhen Human Resources and Social Security Bureau.
Workers in the Shenzhen Gucci flagship store released an accusation on the Internet against the harsh restrictions Gucci laid on them, such as the necessity to report before drinking or going to the toilet, or to pay if anything is lost in the store. One astonishing consequence included a woman miscarrying in the seventh month of her pregnancy after being required to work the night shift.
A decision will be made within sixty working days based on the investigation.
Gucci announced the dismissal of the managers involved in the incident on the evening of October 11.
The shop clerks were managed by Gucci but contracted to other companies, as preliminary findings showed. In other words, they were dispatched from labor companies, one in Shenzhen and another two in Shanghai. Yet the total number of these dispatched laborers still needs further investigation, noted Niu Xiping, head of the inspection team.
Gucci's business in China is based in Shanghai. No sub-company was founded in Shenzhen representing its legal acts. The dispatch mode they used has added to the difficulty in obtaining evidence.
Whether the dispute could be solved properly will set a model example for similar cases in the future, said Niu.
