Kunming (CNS) -- China is expected to become Thailand's biggest tourist source country in 2012, with Chinese tourists making over 1.1 million visits to Thailand from January to August, 2011, more than the total of 2010, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand at the China International Travel Mart (CITM) held in Kunming, capital city of southwest China's Yunnan Province.
Over the past few years, almost one million visits were made by Chinese tourists to Thailand every year, making China its second largest tourist source country.
A delegation of 60 members from 35 Thailand tourism institutions attended this year's fair and brought with them the latest tourism products.
A special brand product "Thai quality travel," authorized by the Thai government, provides a large variety of routes, services and prices.
A Thai tourism official said investigations into the Mekong tragedy are currently underway and the floods have yet threatened the tourism attractions that Chinese tourists are fond of.
