Maoming (CNS) -- A "pinker" is someone who shares (or "pin") the costs of living with others. In an effort to deal with rising prices, the life style of "pinkers" has become popular among young people in Guangdong Province of south China, who share the costs of almost everything, from transportation to dining, from traveling to wedding.
The mission of a "pinker," aside from having fun, is to lower living costs. Information posted by various "pinkers" is flooding the Internet, according to a head of a commercial website in Maoming, a city in south Guangdong.
Dong Hua, born in the 1980s, is a veteran of the "sharing economy." Dong and her boyfriend are both Maoming locals and work in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong.
"The costs of a wedding have soared way above our budget," said Dong. Thus she decided to share a wedding with her two cousins who are also about to get married soon.
"We arranged our wedding at the same time in winter. We talked to the shops together and got a good bargain, saving about 5,000 yuan for each couple," said Dong with joy.
"Sharing of a wedding is normal in big cities like Guangzhou. I became a 'pinker' of almost everything in daily life two years ago, from dining to transportation," added Dong.
Liang Ying, another 'pinker' of traveling told CNS that she and 12 of her colleagues and friends are planning over a trip to Sanya in south China's Hainan province. After discussion of duties, she is responsible for hotel and tickets booking.
"We share our costs, work as a team and buy as a group for lower prices. We can save money and at the same time strengthen our friendship," said Dong.
