6-magnitude earthquake hits Xinjiang

Urumqi (CNS) –An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, where the Yining County and the Gongliu County meet, in northwestern China's Xinjiang, at 8:21 a.m. on Tuesday.

The epicenter is located at 43.6 degrees northern latitude and 82.4 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 10 kilometers.

The quake lasted almost 30 seconds, according to a local netizen.

No casualties have been reported yet. A ten-member rescue team led by the Xinjiang Seismological Bureau has been sent to affected areas.
