Shaoguan (CNS) -- A tank truck carrying over 30 tons of furfuryl alcohol leaked at around 5 a.m. on Monday, following a rear-end collision on the Shaoguan section of the Beijing–Hong Kong–Macau Expressway, according to the Fire Corps of Guangdong Province.
Furfuryl alcohol, a dangerous chemical, has a risk of explosion if being exposed to fire, heat or oxidants.
Three fire engines and 15 fire fighters rushed to the scene. They successfully sealed the leak by 5:50 a.m. Liquid on the ground was diluted to minimize potential environmental harm.
The truck safely drove away at 6:50 a.m. Investigation showed the leak point, about eight centimeters long, could not have been be dealt with without rescuers' help.
