Zhanjiang (CNS) -- The tenth Chinese escort fleet departed from a naval port in Zhanjiang, South China's Guangdong Province, heading for the Gulf of Aden and Somalia waters on November 2.
The Chinese navy escort fleets have convoyed 4,252 Chinese and foreign ships, and rescued 42 ships that were attacked or chased by pirates.
Sending the tenth escort fleet reflects China's dedication to fulfilling its international obligations, and its determination to safeguard the strategic marine route, said Vice-Admiral Ding Yiping, Chinese navy's deputy commander.
The tenth fleet is composed of over 800 officers and soldiers on three vessels – Haikou, Yuncheng, and Qinghaihu.
