Tongren (CNS) –Strong convective weather struck parts of southwest China's Guizhou Province, affecting 33,000 residents, under the influence of a southward cold air, said the Guizhou Meteorological Bureau on November 7.
Heavy rain hit two counties, and thunderstorms with hails swept over another four counties. In Meitan County, Zunyi city of Guizhou, density of hail was about 20 hailstones per square meter, and the largest hailstone had a diameter of six millimeters. It is the first time that hailing occurred in late autumn, according to the records of the county's meteorological bureau.
A total of 33,000 residents have been affected by the bad weather. 300 residents had to be relocated, with over 1,500 houses either being damaged or collapsed, said the Guizhou Civil Affairs Bureau.
As the cold air heads south, most parts of Guizhou are expected to see heavy rainfall, with a drop of temperature throughout the province, said the Guizhou Meteorological Bureau.
