Kunming (CNS) – Southwest China's Yunnan province will spend 1.77 billion yuan (about 25 million USD) protecting the culture heritages of ethnic minorities over the next five years, and 20 million yuan will be dedicated to rescuing and preserving indigenous minorities' traditional cultures, the local government announced at a press conference on November 8.
Over the next five years, the government will carry out 13 key projects, including construction of ethnic villages, establishment of traditional ethnic culture sites, protecting and restoring ethnic relics, setting up of ethnic cultural resource libraries, publication of ethnic characters and reconstruction of Yunnan Museum of Ethnography, said Li Guolin, vice director of Yunnan Ethnic Affairs Commission.
The dedicated fund of 20 million yuan will be used to rescue and preserve the culture heritages of 25 ethnic minorities, including their dances, music, handcrafts, graphic arts and mythic epics.
The funds will strictly follow relevant declaration and budgeting procedures, and the government will set up a supervision system to ensure that the money is spent properly, added Li.
