Beijing (CNS) -- Beijing is dusted by its first snow of the year at twilight on December 2. Continuous movement of strong cold air has chilled many parts of the north, northwest and northeast of China, forming just enough of the white stuff to stick to the ground.

The light snowfall swept across the capital from the south, measuring 0.1 to 0.2 mm in Haidian, Shijingshan, Mentougou and Tongzhou districts, and 0.7 mm in Daxing.

The state meteorological administration predicted the snowfall will stop by around 10 a.m. and the weather will turn cloudy.

The authority cleared the cold alert for the north region on Thursday evening, as the front weakened. Meanwhile in the regions south of the Yangtze river, the southern part of the country, and in Yunnan and Guizhou provinces, a drop in temperature is expected of as much as six to eight degrees Celsius.

In the next two days, light snow or sleet is expected to hit the northern part of the country, specifically north Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and central and east Inner Mongolia; light rain or showers will fall in the east and south parts of the regions south of the Yangtze River and eastern Yunnan, as well as the central and northern parts of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, speculated the central office.

Meteorological experts remind the public to use caution when driving.
