Urumqi (CNS) - Shanghai Volkswagen Automobile Company plans to establish a wholly-owned subsidiary in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, confirmed the Xinjiang Development and Reform Commission on November 6.
The subsidiary, Shanghai Volkswagen Automobile (Xinjiang) Limited, will invest 2 billion yuan in 2013 to build a manufacturing base capable of producing 50 thousand A-class sedans annually. It will be in full operation by 2016.
Xinjiang borders on a variety of Central Asian countries. In 2010, 5,128 automobiles worth over 200 million USD were exported via Khorgas port, a 30 percent increase over last year.
