Shanwei (CNS) – A suspect died suddenly when he was detained in jail for days, confirmed the Lufeng press office on December 11. The suspect was arrested for joining the "9.21" turmoil in the town of Wukan, Lufeng city in South China's Guangdong province.
On September 9, over 400 residents of Wukan petitioned the Lufeng government regarding territorial and financial disputes. Some members of the crowd got out of control and savaged public property. The town's top leaders have resigned. Relevant investigations of the incident are underway.
A special team was formed by the municipal government to investigate the suspect's death. A third party assembled by the provincial forensic medical center was asked to perform an autopsy and report their findings.
