Shanghai (CNS) – 107-year-old Xu Xiuhui underwent surgery to extract her cataracts and implant intraocular lenses in Shanghai Xinhua Hospital.

The weak immunity and low endurance that plagues the aged are factors that make surgery much more difficult and dangerous, even fatal, says surgeon Zhao Peiquan. The last cataract operation he performed on a person over 100 was about ten years ago.

Xu was once chosen as a candidate for the 2008 China's Ten Longevity People. No one has lived longer than her in all of Zhangjiagang municipality, let alone in such good health.

The surgery was successful and Xu left the hospital on Monday.
