Yichang (CNS) -- China's aid team has successfully practiced rice shoot cultivation in Senegal, more than doubling the unit yield in the experimental zone, announced team leader Zhang Benjun, on Monday.
By applying this technology to the nationwide farmland resources of Senegal, it can sufficiently meet its own rice demand, according to the state agricultural authority.
Rice shoot cultivation, rather than the traditional method of transplanting rice seedlings, plants a crop by distributing rice seeds together with nutrient-rich soil onto the land, and harvests are considerably better. It is an improvement over the normal procedure in terms of both efficiency and yields.
This bilateral agricultural cooperation started in November 2006. So far, two teams of rice experts have been dispatched to train local farmers on advanced plantation methods.
