Beijing (CNS) – China will spend 207.9 billion yuan on 22 construction projects of diverse sorts, including highways, airports, power stations, steel plants, and the use of new energy, all with a focus on the development of western China.
China's develop-the-west strategy was devised in 1999, aiming to accelerate the economies of 12 provinces, autonomous regions and municipality in that 70 percent of the country's land that houses 30 percent of its population. The strategy has achieved the completion of 165 key projects since 1999, utilizing 3.1 trillion yuan, said China's National Development and Reform Commission. The GDP for western China achieved an 11.9 percent increase each year from 2000 to 2009, higher than other parts of China.
