Quanzhou (CNS) -- The millennium old art of carved fabric painting was cultivated in Quanzhou, hometown of fabric culture in east China's Fujian Province, and Chinese master Chen Ronghao was invited to produce an original piece on the theme of the Olympic ideal and spirit for the London Games, CNS was told on Tuesday.

Paintings carved from fabric are extremely demanding due to the fragility of the materials. 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival,' an exquisite masterpiece by Chen is perpetually preserved at the venerable Salon d'Automne in Paris, one of the world's most honored of historical exhibition halls.

Accepting the proposal to carve the artwork, Chen designed a carving model, and once the model is approved by London, he will illustrate the combined beauty of silk and sculpture.

Already famous in the international art sphere, Chen anticipates more exposure to the essence of western art, and the inspiration to continue to innovate in his new creations.

It is his hope that fabric carving will not only draw the admiration of overseas art lovers but become a kind of calling card of Chinese culture, passed on by those who love and cherish the craft.
