Washington (CNS) – "It is so nice to see overseas Chinese here", said Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping during a stop in Washington on February 13 as part of his US tour, "This is my fifth visit to the United States."
Vice president Xi met with Chinese Embassy staff and overseas Chinese representatives in Washington on the night of February 13 and reminisced, "I first visited the US in 1985, the year that I worked in Hebei Province. In the following year when I worked for Fuzhou city, I visited here twice; my fourth visit to the US took place when I worked in Zhejiang Province."
"On this visit I am promoting exchanges between our peoples and governments, at the city and regional levels." said Xi, "and I believe it will be a successful visit."
Xi and overseas Chinese had their picture taken together to capture a meaningful moment. Dong Jiling, a Chinese lady standing behind Xi caught up with him for a short talk, mentioning she had participated in activities highlighting his 2006 US tour. Dong was impressed that Xi recalled her.
Dong Jiling is a former official with the US Ministry of Commerce. She recollected that in 2006 Xi gave a speech on the themes of economic and trade activity between the US and Zhejiang Province. "Xi has a good memory and he brought up lots of figures during his speech; he also showed a lot of emotion,"Dong told a reporter from CNS.
