Doha (CNS) -- China, India, Brazil and South Africa (BASIC) on Tuesday urged developed countries to fulfill their financial commitments during a joint press conference in Doha.
Xie Zhenhua, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission, said that the financial commitments were one of the top concerns of the BASIC group at the UN climate talks. Xie stressed that the medium-term financial support from 2013 to 2015 should be implemented first.
According to those commitments, developed countries pledged 30 billion U.S. dollars from 2010 to 2012 as fast-start funds and also committed long-term funding to meet the financing needs of developing countries. However, the developed countries have cited strained budgets in their reluctance to meet the commitments.
Developing countries deserve more financial support, and it would also create a basis for mutual trust, the BASIC group reaffirmed.
The group also called for a second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol.
