(ECNS) -- An essay assignment by a high school in southeastern Taiwan has been opposed by parents and removed from the students' homework list, according to the Taiwan-based news site ETtoday.
The high school in Taitung had asked all of its students to write an essay titled "My Last Will" during summer vacation.
"When I saw the title, I thought my child was suicidal," one parent said angrily.
Other parents were also upset, saying it was improper to ask students to write such an essay.
Xie Yiming, headmaster of the school, explained that the essay was a "life education" assignment to teach students about property inheritance, organ donation, burials and so on.
We have cancelled the assignment, although we insist that the teaching idea is legitimate, he said.
