(ECNS) -- Many McDonald's outlets in Beijing have stopped selling meat products after the chain's supplier was accused of offering out-of-date meat, the Beijing News reported.
Reporters found on Sunday that chicken nuggets, meat burgers and rice had been taken off the menu at many McDonald's restaurants in the city, leaving only a type of fish sandwich, fries and drinks.
Staff at some McDonald's stood idly behind counters, and only drinks were spotted on tables beside customers.
Leading staff at Beijing McDonald's said the limited menu is the result of a shortage of supplies.
The fast food titan previously announced that it would terminate its business relationship with the scandal-hit Shanghai Husi Food Co., Ltd, owned by the US-based OSI Group, and said there would be scant supplies for outlets nationwide.
It also said it would continue to accept supplies from Hebei Husi in north China before moving its supply chain entirely to Henan Husi.
The OSI Group announced over the weekend that it will withdraw from the market all products from its Chinese subsidiary.
The group said it is conducting an internal investigation into Shanghai Husi's management team for possible misconduct, and will take legal action against those found responsible. A new management team has been brought in to ensure that operations run effectively.
Han Zheng, secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, said on Sunday that any companies in Shanghai that violate the law will receive severe punishment.
