Qingdao (CNS) – Shooting began Monday on a documentary of the events that transpired in Qingdao in 1914, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War I.
The documentary is being made by the government of Qingdao's Shibei district, the Qingdao Municipal Archives, and Beijing South Sea Film Production under China News Service.
Qingdao was a major eastern battlefield during WWI. In 1914, Japan fought the Germans in the Siege of Qingdao and forcibly occupied the city.
Japan's occupation provoked the Chinese people's resistance, which in part fueled the May Fourth Movement in 1919.
The documentary crew consists of outstanding scriptwriters, directors and cameramen. Some of them have won China's top film and television accolades, including the Golden Rooster Award and the Hundred Flowers Award.
The documentary is expected to be finished in October and released in November. In the meantime, promotional material will be issued by China News Service.
