(ECNS) -- Tired of the hustle and bustle of city life, a man aged over 60 has chosen to live in a self-designed tree house in Chen village, Foshan city, South China's Guangdong province.

Gu Yuezi built the "bird nest," which is about 10 square meters in diameter and underpinned by six trees. The tree house has a hall, a bedroom, a bathroom and a kitchen. With the floor made of bamboo, it can bear the weight of about 20 people.

The hermit usually rests, paints, writes, and carves inside, New Express Daily reported.

At the gate of his house stands a statue of the long-bearded god of longevity, carved from root.

Gu has his meals and entertains his guests in a building that looks like a "wine pot."

He claimed to be a master in root carving and engaged in landscape design, saying he created award-winning landscape designs before choosing a life of seclusion in 2006.
