(ECNS)-- China plans to set up a national English proficiency test to integrate all current exams of the kind, according to Peoples Daily.
Experts from home and abroad at a recent seminar pointed out that China’s multiple English qualification tests vary in their standards and functions. This has added burdens to test takers and made it difficult to accurately assess their English ability.
Experts called for a consistent English primary and higher education system, and a national standard in English testing to integrate current functions.
Jiang Gang, director of China’s National Education Examinations Authority, said a hierarchical national English proficiency evaluation system, which is aimed at reducing repetitive tests, is being design. It is expected to be rolled out by 2020 to meet multiple demands of college admission, employment and going abroad.
