(ECNS) -- A uniform of South China's Shenzhen Middle School is set to join the permanent collection of the London-based Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), Chongqing Economic Times reported on Friday.
Chinese school uniforms have become part of the country's pop culture, a well-known sina weibo account "Yingguo Naxieshir" has said.
Xie Qiongzhi, a brand executive with the Shenzhen & Hong Kong Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture, which boasts "the only biennial exhibition in the world to be based exclusively on the set themes of urbanism and urbanization", according to its website, confirmed the news on Thursday.
As a participating exhibitor at the Shenzhen & Hong Kong Biennale, the V&A presented collections reflecting the city's rapid developments, with items put forward by Guangdong residents, Xie said.
Ding Judan, 21, now a junior at Tongji University in Shanghai, was the first to send an e-mail to exhibition organizers suggesting the uniform be included. She was born and raised in Shenzhen and graduated from Shenzhen Middle School in 2012.
Corinna Gardner, an exhibition planner at V&A, told the newspaper via social media site WeChat that the collections on display tell stories about Shenzhen and that the uniform would be permanently displayed by the museum after the show.
The uniform in question is a winter sports outfit for both boys and girls, the paper said, citing a source surnamed Wang at Shenzhen's education bureau.
