(ECNS) - Beijing has launched a massive anti-smoking campaign 50 days before the city's strictest measures come into effect on June 1, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
On China's popular messaging app WeChat, an account is open for the public to access knowledge and rules related to smoking. Followers of the account can also report cases of illegal smoking.
The Beijing Association on Tobacco Control has also urged the public to vote for their favorite anti-smoking gesture from three options.
In the three posters, a woman makes hand gestures in compliance with words like "No", "Please Stop", and "I Do Mind".
Liu Zejun, director of the Beijing Patriotic Health Campaign Committee, said law enforcement officials will supervise smokers in public places on and immediately after June 1.
China Central Television (CCTV) anchors Jing Yidan and Lang Yongchun are among the image ambassadors for the anti-smoking drive.
In November 2014, the Beijing municipal legislature passed a bill banning smoking in all indoor public places, workplaces, and on public transportation.
But doubts about the feasibility of the regulation have been climbing, as smokers are still seen puffing away in restaurants, schools and other public spaces in the capital city, despite previous smoking bans.
