(ECNS) - Dr. Aaron Ciechanover, Israeli biochemist and winner of the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, will move to Zhuhai, South China's Guangdong province, to work at the new biomedical research institute, an official has said.
Ciechanover and Dr. Ada Yonath, who shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2009, witnessed the launch ceremony of the Zhuhai International Biomedical Institute, a new research establishment based in the city.
The two Nobel laureates are among esteemed biomedical experts hired by the institute who will focus on biomedical research transformation and industrialization.
Ciechanover is going through the administrative procedures for long-term residence in Zhuhai, according to Li Weihui, head of the city's department of human resources and social security.
Ciechanover said the main reason he is coming to Zhuhai is to establish the institute.
Ciechanover discovered the method of cells degrading and recycling proteins using ubiquitin. He is now a member of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA.
Ada Younath, dubbed the "Marie Curie of Israel," is a leading scientist on the structure of ribosomes, the protein builders of cells.
