(ECNS) -- Beijing Railway Station has introduced a long-awaited policy to assist visually impaired passengers with guide dogs.
Travellers will be able to reserve the service 12 hours before boarding the train from May 1, which is also the first day of the May Day holiday.
The railway station will designate an employee to assist passengers with guide dogs with purchasing tickets and boarding the train.
Passengers will also be required to show their IDs, proof of disability and Animal Health And Immunity Certificates if they choose to travel with the animal by train.
Besides, dogs will also have to pass a security check.
China has seen controversial cases where visually impaired passengers and their guide dogs have been prohibited from boarding trains. Railway authorities promised in late March to accommodate visually impared passengers.
