(ECNS) - Begging, busking and distributing leaflets in Beijing's subway system will be banned when a new regulation takes effect on May 1. Persons caught undertaking these actions could be fined up to 1,000 yuan ($160), according to the Beijing Times.
Under the new regulation, those caught begging or busking inside the subway could receive a fine between 50 and 1,000 yuan. The fine for distributing leaflets ranges from 100 to 1,000 yuan. Fines may rise to 1,000 to 10,000 yuan for serious misconduct.
The Beijing Municipal Rail Transportation Law Enforcement Team was established on Wednesday, composed of 88 public servants with law-enforcement capabilities, according to Liang Jianwei, spokesperson for the team.
They received specialized training for one month, focusing on increasing their stamina, skills and legal knowledge. Beijing will continue recruiting new members in 2015 to ensure that every subway station has at least 2 such officials. With 318 stations in Beijing, the team will grow to exceed 600 personnel.
