(ECNS) - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will hold a series of events to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945) and the end of World War II, said Tsang Tak-sing, secretary for home affairs of the HKSAR government, on Thursday. At the invitation of the Russian Consul General to Hong Kong, Vladimir Anatolyevich Kalinin, Tsang addressed a reception in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Russia's victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Russian term for World War II.
Tsang said Hong Kong will organize a variety of commemorative events, including an official ceremony, exhibitions, seminars, movie showings, a book fair and visits to historic sites.
This month, the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence led the way in opening an exhibition called "Fighting as One: Reminders of the Eight-year War of Resistance in Guangdong and Hong Kong," to mark the 70th anniversary of the War of Resistance against Japan. The show was co-organized with the Guangdong Museum of Revolutionary History.
Each year, Hong Kong will hold ceremonies to mourn compatriots and soldiers who lost their lives during the Japanese occupation from December 25, 1941 to August 15, 1945.
