(ECNS) -- The ever faster 5G network will arrive in 2020, making it possible to download a movie in the blink of an eye, according to a technology forum.
Compared to contemporary mobile communication technology, the 5G network focuses more on the needs of consumers, said You Xiaohu, a professor and mobile communication expert from Southeast University.
The 5G network will provide multiple mobile applications, such as interactive games, virtual reality and hologram imaging. Current people-to-people communication will also expand to a people-to-machine level when Internet-driven objects, such as cars and industry, are common.
According to You, the 5G network supports a download speed of 10Gbps, which could transfer 1GB of data in 0.8 second. That is to say, in two blinks of an eye, you could completely download a movie as long as hardware lives up to its requirements. However, right now it is too early to determine what charges will be levied for the 5G network, You added.
The forum was held on May 17 in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, with the theme "Telecommunications and ICTs: Drivers of innovation". It was co-hosted by the China Institute of Communications, Jiangsu Communication Administration and Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
