(ECNS) -- Most of China's college students say they have no problem with the term "I would rather cry in a BMW than smile on a bicycle", which signals that traditional attitudes toward love and marriage are being challenged by younger generations, an online survey has found.

The study was conducted by Renren Network, a popular Chinese social networking service, in preparation for May 20, a contemporary local Valentine's Day chosen mainly for its phonetic similarities to the Chinese for "I love you".

Of the 2,573 post-90s college students - 1,256 males and 1,317 females – 67.7 percent say there is nothing wrong with such an attitude but that they would not do so; 20.4 percent say they strongly oppose the sentiment and resent such behavior; 7.1 percent say the words are the creation of someone suffering a case of sour grapes; and 4.8 percent say they would have a try if given the chance.

When choosing their dates, the post-90s pay most attention to personality (87.1 percent), common language (81.1 percent) and appearance (58.2 percent).
