(ECNS) - Zhangjiajie, a scenic national park in Central China's Hunan province, says it's focused on safety as it gets set to open the world's longest and highest glass-bottomed bridge in July.
The bridge connects two cliffs in the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon area, which is 430 meters long and six meters wide, hovering over a 300-meter vertical drop.
A representative of the scenic spot says it took a year to reinforce the flanks of the mountains to enhance safety. The bridge was also extended 60 meters in length and 2.8 meters in width to reduce risk.
The transparent bridge can accommodate up to 800 people at one time, sources say, and no steel or concrete was used to create the surface of the structure.
Zhangjiajie is said to have been the inspiration behind the planet "Pandora" in James Cameron's 2009 film "Avatar."
