(ECNS) -- A poodle is being forced by its owner to beg for money according to reports released on Friday.
The dog balances on its hind legs holding a sign that reads,"I'm hungry," with the wording in Chinese modified to add a monetary tone. Everyday between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., the animal follows its owner, who is likely a begger, to "work" outside a supermarket in Nanyang city, Henan province of central China.
The dog's pitiful look elicits pats on the head and, more importantly, money into the box on its side from customers heading in and out of the store. "The little dog makes even more (money) than I do," a nearby vender commented.
The "real" beggar, who appears to be in his 30s, sits in a chair not far away. Sometimes, the dog gets tired and needs a rest, settling on all fours instead. However, the shift in position means it does not attract as many donations, soliciting threats from the beggar who forces it to continue.
The public has since criticized the man for mistreating the dog.
