(ECNS) - Police in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region took down 181 terrorist groups between April 30 and May 23 last year, when an anti-terrorism campaign was carried out.
The Party committee in Xinjiang said 96.2 percent of the groups were in preparatory stages, the overseas edition of People's Daily reported.
The campaign also persuaded 112 suspects on the run to turn themselves in.
The Party committee said the campaign received wide support and many people from different ethnic groups provided tip-offs that helped police.
The campaign operated strictly under legal frameworks and the protection of human rights, according to People's Daily.
