(ECNS) -- Four fire officers have been reprimanded, with two having their contracts nulled, over dereliction in Wenshan prefecture, Yunnan province, Beijing Youth Daily reported.
On May 21, an online post criticized some fire officers for being busy taking photos of themselves instead of helping in the search for a missing child who was washed away by floods after falling into a culvert from a bridge under renovation in a local township.
Of the pictures attached to the post, two showed a woman in a camouflage uniform taking a photo of two officers beside a fire engine.
The local authority sent a fire engine and six officers to join the rescue mission upon receiving tip-offs about the drowned child during the afternoon of May 21.
One of the men in the pictures, a soldier, was given a warning, while the other man, a government-hired professional firefighter, together with the woman, a publicity staff member, were fired following the incident, the authority confirmed.
