(ECNS) -- Beijing is toughening up its anti-smoking efforts with a new set of regulations set to take effect on June 1, according to The Beijing News on Tuesday.
Kindergartens, alongside primary and middle schools, will be free from cigarette sales since no vender will be allowed to sell within 100 meters of such institutions.
In addition, all types of tobacco business promotion events will be prohibited, said Beijing's municipal tobacco authority. Tobacco advertisements will also be banned from mass media, public transportation and outdoor billboards.
The government will also have staff on patrol in restaurants and tourist sites to monitor and persuade customers from smoking. Key resorts will outlaw smoking all together while others will set up smoking areas.
Beijing Capital International Airport will gradually replace indoor smoking rooms with outdoor smoking areas, starting with Terminal 3. In addition, the airport will also complete the setting up of sensors and cameras to detect and monitor smoking by June 1.
Beijing's subway stations and carriages will also say no to smoking with anti-smoking posters set to be plastered over significant locations throughout the transport system.
