(ECNS) – The Guangzhou Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau in South China's Guangdong province has seized 632 tins of milk powder made in Tokyo, the New Express reported Thursday.
Tokyo is one of the Japanese areas that China has imposed a food import ban on since the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011.
The milk powder, imported to China via e-commerce transactions, totaled 537.2 kilograms and is worth nearly 60,000 yuan ($9,681.25), according to the report.
The e-commerce company involved in the case failed to present an inspection certificate of quality assurance concerning radioactive materials, or a certificate of origin issued by the Japanese government, the paper said.
Authorities in Guangzhou have returned the shipments, it said.
