(ECNS) – China Telecom, one of the country's three largest carriers, will soon lower roaming charges for data, call and text message services in 245 countries and regions, including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, China National Radio reported Tuesday.
The company said that starting on July 1, there will be significant drops in overseas roaming fees in areas with large numbers of China Telecom users.
Mobile data and voice-call plans will drop by more than 90 percent, the company said, and text message services will see an 80 percent drop in charges.
The company also says it will roll out data plans at preferential prices to 150 countries and regions.
In May and June, China Telecom intensified negotiations with overseas carriers to secure the lowest possible service prices for its users, the report said.
In countries and regions where service prices remain high, a subsidy program will be offered. Existing data plans with prices between 10 yuan to 90 yuan per MB will get prices cut to 10 yuan per MB or lower.
In addition, the company has launched the CTExcel mobile virtual network service abroad, providing voice, text message and mobile data services. It also includes functions such as overseas payment and travel assistance, which will help reduce overseas telecommunications costs.
