(ECNS) - The average annual income of employees at the Shenzhen Blood Center has caused controversy, with workers reportedly earning salaries of 196,800 yuan ($31,704), twice the average wage in the city.
Salaries were initially reported to be about 357,000 yuan, according to the Health and Family Planning Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, which calculates its 2015 budget from 15 affiliated institutions. However, at a press conference the same day, the Shenzhen Blood Center clarified that its real average annual salary was 196,800 yuan.
The center has 165 employees, comprising 91 registered and 74 temporary staff. The initial number included pay to registered staff but excluded temporary employees, causing the center's average salaries to appear higher.
The corrected number is still more than double the average annual income in Shenzhen, which is currently 72,651 yuan, the New Express reported.
The Shenzhen Blood Center was criticized for its lack of transparency in disclosing budget details.
