(ECNS) -- Beijing will implement the odd-even car ban from August 20 to September 3 amid measures to improve air quality for an important anniversary, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport.[Special coverage]
Such a regulation means alternate driving days for cars with even- and odd- numbered license plates, a move expected to ease traffic with a 35 percent drop projected in the number of private vehicles on the road.
The move will ensure air quality for activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945) and the World Anti-Fascist War on Sept 3, which China has declared a national holiday.
Beijing had previously implemented the odd-even regulation during the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 and APEC meeting in Nov 2013.
The capital will also control construction and require certain companies to reduce or stop emissions during the period.
