(ECNS) – Chinese students in Australia spend more money than their Chinese peers studying in other parts of the world, a study has found.
On average, Chinese students in Australia spend 20 percent more than those in the U.S., according to the 2015 China Cross-border Consumption Annual Index Report, jointly released by Visa Inc. and the Economic Information Daily last week.
Chinese students in the UK, Singapore and Canada spend slightly less than those in the U.S., followed by those in Italy, France, New Zealand and Sweden, which points to Europe as a good choice for Chinese students in terms of living costs.
With regard to where the money goes, spending on education accounts for 22 percent of the total, and retail spending is 21 percent.
In addition, cross-border travel is an important part of life for overseas Chinese students. Nearly 74 percent say they have traveled beyond the place where they study, while nearly 45 percent say they have been visited by parents or other relatives while abroad.
