(ECNS) -- Li Nina, a promotional ambassador for Beijing's 2022 Winter Olympics Games, said Thursday at an interview by Chinanews.com that she is surprised to find so many ski resorts near Beijing and believe they allow athletes to compete to the best of their abilities.
The two-time Olympic medallist and three-time world champion has been honored as the leading athlete of her generation and a true winter sports competitor on the global stage.
Li said although initially she would train in Inner Mongolia because of its snowy climate, there are now many professional ski resorts in several northern cities.
"I cannot believe that more than 100 ski resorts have been built around Beijing just in the last decade. Many people now go skiing in winter, and it has become part of their lifestyle," she said.
"I have competed at many world-class ski resorts, so initially I was not interested in visiting ordinary ski fields. But after skiing at Wanlong in Zhangjiakou of Hebei province, which features different ski tracks of varying level, I was pleasantly surprised by the convenience and professional facilities provided."
The Wanlong ski resort, about 260 kilometers northwest of Beijing, has been renowned for its supportive and professional facilities even before the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic bid.
Li believes the games would bring exciting development opportunities to China.
