(ECNS) - Beijing has vowed to reduce emissions to improve air quality for a military parade next month, the Beijing News reported on Friday. [Special coverage]

The capital city will hold a grand military parade on Sept. 3 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Beijing will also reuse the odd-even car license ban from August 20 to September 3 to help ensure a blue sky.

Yu Jianhua, chief engineer at the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau, said an air protection project is being launched in Beijing and neighboring regions, so that production and construction will be reduced.

The strict anti-air pollution plan works towards guaranteeing air quality standards for the parade ceremony, Yu said.

He also said that Beijing can draw experiences from previous big events, such as the Olympic Games in 2008, to reduce emissions.

According to data analysis, weather conditions in early September should be good, says the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau and the meteorological department.

Furthermore, by the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, the concentration of PM2.5 - airborne particles measuring 2.5 micrometers or less that can penetrate the lungs and harm health - is expected to have been reduced by 45 percent compared to that of 2012, Yu added.
