(ECNS) -- Shanghai has boosted airport security as the nation prepares for activities marking the 70th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945). [Special coverage]
Security procedures at Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao Airport are being upgraded, while more passengers are required to open their baggage for checks.
According to Spring Airlines, airports started to tighten security on August 1 and some passengers missed their planes.
Travelers are advised to arrive at either airport for check-in at least two hours prior to departure and to make their way through airport security checks as soon as possible.
In addition, there are also other suggestions from experts to help ensure passengers pass through airport security quickly. These include, for example, discarding lighters and matches before arriving at the airport, removing computers and cameras from cases in advance, and ensuring the total volume of cosmetics and other liquid products in carry-on baggage is less than 100 milliliters.
Other cities like Tianjin have also enhanced security checks while China plans to hold a grand military parade in Beijing on Sept. 3.
