(ECNS) -- China's 12 leading Internet companies have vowed to work closely with the cultural industry and Internet regulators in Beijing to clear up pornographic content online, and website operators will launch a blacklist of live broadcasters who break the rules, Legal Daily reports.
Companies including Baidu, Sina, and Youku agreed to intensify content censorship and establish a 7*24 hour supervision system. Some video sites have been accused of hosting indecent and pornographic content to attract users.
Last month, a video of a couple having sex in a Uniqlo dressing room went viral on the Internet, which harmed social virtue, cultural industry regulators said at a meeting with the streaming sites.
The meeting urged operators to ensure positive and healthy online culture as well as entertainment programs.
The market scale of the Internet-based performance industry has reached 5.43 billion yuan ($0.84 billion), an increase of 49.2 percent year-on-year, according to Beijing-based iResearch Consulting Group. In addition, it is estimated the growth rate would remain at more than 30 percent over the next five years.
